I'm an undergraduate thinking about a career in academia... and wondering if that's a choice that would render me jaded and crusty by the time I hit 30. I cry at movies easily and laugh at little things. I can assemble a killer chicken pot pie and craft a pretty fabulous batch of almond cookies. I took up crossword puzzles this summer, but can only reliably finish through Wednesday in the NYTimes without the task monopolizing my waking hours. I am queer and feminine. I am restless. I don't mind being lost. If there's any truth to the adage that there are but two types of courage in this world-- the courage to live and the courage to die-- I'd much rather possess the courage to live.

I was born and raised in Minneapolis in 1957 and moved to Cherokee Iowa in 1970. I lived between the two over the years along with short stays in Escondido Ca. and Lookinglass Or.
Married no children, for 14 years and divorced in 2001.
Gardening is what I do for a living and for pleasure. Been the gardener to over 100 families throughout the metro area for 23 years and I am a Handy-man and a Chef for a resturant in the winter months.

I'm a successful, articulate and rather engaging gentleman (or so I've been told) that is seeking one special woman to become an integral part of my life and I of hers. Liberal, politically and socially aware individuals earn bonus points. Music lovers, movie fanatics and fans of comedy clubs will win me over more than tv junkies (although I do enjoy The History Channel, Discovery, TLC, etc).

I will not respond if you don't have a pic (whatsup with that anyway? Isn't this a dating site? Isn't physical attraction natures initial way of bringing men and women together, like a Peacocks feathers? Originally from Wyoming and South Dakota, I came to MN for college. I studied psychology, women & gender, and french at a liberal arts college where I also did a lot of backstage (and some on-stage) theater work.

I enjoy being outdoors--hiking, skiing, snow boarding, ice skating, climbing--and wish MN was a bit more dynamic in terms of elevation, but I do enjoy the lakes and trees here. I really enjoy photography, especially landscapes and scenery.

The range of my musical tastes is wide, and I enjoy hearing new sound and styles too. (My radio always plays 89.3 the Current).

Some of my favorite things to do socially are laugh, play board or card games, dance, and play pool.

This will sound strange, but people who know me describe me as both relaxed and intense; easy-going and high energy. Yes, those are oxymoronic adjectives, but it works for me.
I am equally at ease screaming on a roller coaster (preferably wooden) or cuddling and quitely watching a sunset.

I'm also terminally curious and unceasingly optimistic. Weekend spontaneity is also a hallmark of my existence. It's extremely enjoyable to hop in a car for the day (or entire weekend) with no plan in mind other than a likely destination.

I laugh easily and frequently and my good mood is usually contagious. I skip and Monkee Walk for no reason. One of my favorite quotes is from Oscar Wilde "Life is too important to be taken seriously".

That said, I love my job and believe that our work (and more importantly our attitude towards our work) is crucial to a healthy outlook on life.

I enjoy festivals and events. I get to the Renaissance Festival every year (no I don't have period clothes), Arts Festivals, leaf-peeping, and many other activities.

My only true addiction is films. My favorite of all time is "Mary Poppins". Kind of like revisiting childhood.

I travel when I can and the photo is from Alaska in September, 2008. I neither hunt nor fish, although I have been known to shoot things with a camera. Walking in the woods is rejuvinating and I have been swimming in all five Great Lakes.

Mostly I eat healthy (primarily vegetarian) and am a competent cook with most things, and excellent with a few. There is always pizza when results are inedible. Kitchen chores are a wonderful shared activity.

I firmly believe that attraction lies between the ears and everything else is frosting.

Wow, I always find these summaries to be extremely difficult to write. How can you sum yourself up in so few words? I guess you could say I'm a very out-going, funny, honest guy who just likes good company with people that I can honestly consider to be friends. Trying new things is always something I take pride in, and I'm usually up for trying anything that I am even remotely interested in. I think that everyone should be open to experiences, because how can you judge before you've experienced it yourself? I also really enjoy sitting around talking about nothing for hours on end. It seems like you learn more about people from talking about nothing than you ever would by asking them about themselves.

I'm living Northfield, Minnesota, if you're not knowledgeable on the town its an outstandingly boring but fantastic college town on the Cannon River. I'm taking a year off to earn money in order to help afford college before shipping out so I have a whole year ahead of me of nothing besides working and some times acting in a few plays. I love campfires, good friends, a sparkling lake, star-gazing on a clear night, movies, a good pen and a new notebook, autumn and the smell of dry leaves, marching bands and small town parades, the entire Christmas season, softly falling snow, the fresh smell of new snow, a baby's smile, clean sheets, a good massage that doesn't have to "go anywhere", studying the Word, some TV (The History Channel, HGTV, TLC, and NatGeo are a few of my favorites), and the smell of a new box of Crayolas. Someone mentioned freshly mown hay and sweet clover and I'm taking those on as my own as well!

I'm a patient, kind of goofy person who loves family and friends, cooking out, taking the grandchildren to the park, and love trying new things, just to see if I can do them. One thing I've done that totally shocks people who know me is a form of bungee jumping (free-falling from 150 ft. in a harness, then swinging until stopping)...since I'm afraid of heights, this even shocks me! I had to do it...I don't have to do it again.

Overall, I am a pretty easy going gal. I get along with many people. I can be kind of quiet at times, especially when I am first getting to know someone, I open up rather quickly after that. Concerts are some of my favorite things to go to. I try to go to as many as I can. Live music is amazing. Another thing I really enjoy doing is working out. I try to work out everyday for at least an hour-hour and a half :)

I am a single parent of 2 great kids! My 9 yo son lives with me and my 23 yo daughter is on her own. I have a beautiful 2 yo grandson whom I try to see as much as possible. There's nothing better than having him run to me with his arms open wide :) I love music, the outdoors (I even will put a worm or minnow on my own hook :)), and spending time with family and friends. Who am I?

That's a tough question to answer some days, but basically I"m a geek. I work with computers so they are apart of who I am, but I can separate myself from them. I enjoy camping and hiking, my favorite spot is anywhere along the north shore of Lake Superior. I also enjoy going to the theater to see musicals and plays, my favorite is Les Mis, but I've seen Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast and others. I can be rather sarcastic, if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. I'm open-minded about people and who they are, I let them prove their worth and earn my trust.

i enjoy movies, theatre, music, food, my dogs, discussions of nearly any topic, the kids i work with, my friends and family, the internet and facebook, and travelling. one of my life's goals is to go to every country i have heritage from (been to scotland and sweden; need to get to finland, germany, switzlerland, holland, france, and hope my next trip will be ireland). there are many other places i'd like to go.

i have a good sense of humour and appreciate it in others. i can't tell a joke to save my life, however. i can be sarcastic, but not at others' expense. i get irony (and would like to explain what that means to alanis morissette).

i've noticed that how someone drives can tell you a lot about them, whether they are conscientious, selfish, oblivious, fearful, aggressive, whatever. it's a good indication of how they interact with others and how they see the world in general.

Lets see how to start off another about me section....well I suppose we could start off with my name. I'm Matthew (Matt, Matty, whatever you feel like calling me). I'm 20 years old not for long though, I'll be 21 in March...FINALLY! I'm a hopeless romantic which sucks cuz it seems like I'm the only one these days. I love love love music, dancing, reading, writing. I would say singing too but I cant sing so we're not even gonna go there. I've graduated from Regency Beauty Institute and have an active cosmetology liscence but dont really have any desire to work in a drama filled environment. I'm mostly doing this whole thing out of boredom, and I am 87% certain the bar is not the right place to meet the right person for me. During the summer I like to get outdoors and be somewhat active. Winter consist of a lot of geeky indoor activities. One of the first things someone asks you is "what are you looking for"? So right off the bat I am going to list off a few ideal aspect that I like (ideal but not set in stone). Christian, gentleman (opening doors, flowers, pulling out chair...), non-smoker (in process of quitting or occasional/light ok), light drinker (I have never been drunk and don't ever plan on it but i like a glass of wine with Christmas dinner ect.), good personal hygiene (non negotiable), good sense of humor, and most of all can accept me for who I am. Also at this point in my life I am not dating just for something to do in my free time. I date with the intention of it becoming a serious relationship with the possibility of marriage.
If you have stuck with me thus far you might think wow she is very straight forward. That is true when it comes to the computer but not as much in person, at least maybe i don't come off as harsh in person. I am usually pretty shy when people first meet me but I tend to open up within a short time. I am pretty outgoing and spontaneous, I have been known to dance with random strangers at applebee's, again I note I have never been drunk. I am an outgoing person that is always ready to try something different. I love anything outdoors, camping, golfing and long rides on my motorcycle. I am a very open minded person. I don't believe in having to change for a person, in order for them to like you, and vise versa. I don't like to be controlled or control in a relationship.. I'm not going to tell you what to do and how to live your life. Its your life you make the decisions according to your values, morals, beliefs,.. but if I don't agree with your decisions I'm not going to stay there and support you.. I don't care if you talk to other guys (lets get real, you can have good friends who are the opposite sex, it shouldn't alter the relationship) but if you decide to get intimate with other people then good bye. I am very understanding I understand if you lose your feelings or attractions, but come out and be upfront with it. Don't waste mine or your time. I can put myself in other people's shoes and see their perspective. I am a laid back person, with very little limitations. Once I set my mind on something, I don't stop until I accomplish what I've started. I have my set views on life, Just because we may disagree on a few aspects doesn't mean that we cant "click" or become friends. I like diversity and variety... I came here from Ukraine when I was 6 1/2, and have lived here ever since. I can speak both English, and Russian.. I am a hard worker, I am 19 and have had 9 different jobs. I don't like associating myself with lazy people. Not that I don't like just sitting around at times, but if thats all you do then get a life..
